Book Design

Book Design

Before designing your book cover, research the best-selling
trade-pub book covers in your genre and then emulate them.
I started out with a cover that fits the “cozy mystery” genre, but then
I realize I needed to redo it because my book is a little too edgy for that genre.
And…my sales immediately went up.

Just because it’s  from one of the big five publishing companies, doesn’t
mean it will be the best example of design for online book-selling.
Many were designed  for bookstores with no thought of internet sales.

You can use Createspace to design your cover, but those covers tend to all look alike.
They scream “Createspace” and look amateur-ish.
Spend some money and get a cover that stands out.

WHAT SORT OF ‘BACK MATTER’ SHOULD YOUR BOOK CONTAIN?

At a minimum:

  • a polite request to the reader to leave a review
  • author bio and links, especially to your mailing list
  • details of other books you have published
  • Learn more….
